There were studies that have been conducted by some experts in communication. They found these #10 words which mean nothing but for those who perceives can say a lot. Those words of “filler” that adorn a sentence and that people tend to use very often can be perceived by a boss or a recruiter negatively and damage the reputation. Like the body language that communicates a lot about people’s personality, these words seem to mean nothing but they can reveal a lot about a person.
Here are those words …
1 – “Ummm …”
This sound is often used at the beginning of each sentence to answer questions, is perceived by the other party as a sign of indecision or a person unable to express .
2 – “You can not …”
Before a boss or human resources manager must completely avoid saying “I can not” , “this can not be” and replace it with a “do not know how.” For example if your boss asks you to do something and you say you do not know how, he will teach and you will. However, to say you can not, someone else will and you will be bad in front of everyone. The attitude of saying you do not know how to do it but you want to learn better view than surrender and no power.
3 – “Like”
Employing a “Like” out of Facebook shows poor communication skills. “I like that idea,” “I have quite liked the part where” are examples. It is better explained more and not respond with a simple “Like”.
4 – “Never”
This word can not be used to talk about the future, if you want to refer to the past can use it because it can show security. The word “never” sometimes it is related to naive people , it is a word that eliminates the possibility of an idea.
5 – “But …”
After explaining something many people use a “but” and when it is mentioned all the above explanation is eliminated. For example, instead of saying “I will make a 10% discount, but …” It is better to say “I will make a 10% discount, and for that …”
6 – “Innovative”
Experts advise Forbes magazine remove this word when speaking and in the resume. It is a word much used in the business world as an idea presented to a group of investors and the term “innovative business” is used, investors already know that the idea is not innovative.
7 – “Probably”
While the word does not say practically nothing, the other person will interpret it as “I have no idea” . Implemented imagine your company tells you “you probably pay this month,” it will make you think they are not sure that you can pay that month in the company.
8 – “No”
Must be one of the most hated words because it is associated with the negative . Never answer with a no. Always accompany this monosyllable with something not to sound aggressive, give an explanation after the “no” or change it by a “Wish I could, but ….”
9 – “Etc.”
The expert in communication skills, Robert Finder, says that “so” is a “non-word” as it leaves the other person still think and do the rest of work and also that person can let their imagination and assume something that has not been said. Although if you want to talk about the shortcomings of a competing product, it is good to name them all and end with an “etc” because that way the customer’s imagination can find more deficiencies. When talking about the benefits of a product or our own virtues in a job interview is better to use the term “and more”
10 – “Seriously”
This word is often used by compulsive liars because they think that using it will lie better. It is used as an element of truth but usually produces the opposite effect.
